In October 2003, a dozen of us made the trip south to Phillip Island for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. We arrived at the island after a few days of scenic riding and were set up at the Trackside Campground by lunch on Thursday. We got to take in qualifying and support racing on Friday and Saturday, plus all the other attractions, like the GP Expo. Of course the big day was Sunday, October 19. Unfortunately the day dawned cold, windy and wet. Not really fair after the previous days sunshine had lulled us into a false sense of security.

The hardy (crazy) ones amongst us determined not to be put off and trudged out to the fences to get a spot to watch the action, geez, it was cold. Bloody hell it rained! But we hung in there, just. The 125s had a very wet race, by the time the 250s came out things were looking up. The sun was shining bright by 3pm when the MotoGP bikes got into it. I gather “The Doctor” even set a new lap record. He went on to win despite a ten second penalty for passing under a yellow flag.

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed the trip

First off some shots from around the track and the island, most of these shots were taken by Lew.

The next pics are mostly of the 250 and MotoGP racing, these were taken by Mark. Sorry, none from the 125 race, it was raining too much to get the camera out.

Next are some pictures from Graeme and Evalyn.
